The
concept of Saturday Band & Strings
was developed to give elementary
and middle school aged students
who have had at least one year of experience
on an instrument, the opportunity
to improve their playing skills
beyond the regular school program and is under the direction
of Wes Miller and Jane Watson.
|
To
become a competent musician takes time and practice.
This program supplements the existing school
programs. In addition, this program is available
for
students who do not have the opportunity to play an instrument in school
due to scheduling issues or budget cuts. The
program is divided into an 8 week
Summer Session and two 10 week sessions during the school year. Each session
will consist of technical study and ensemble work and will end with a performance.
A
Note About Summer Session:
Regular group and individual practice is an important part of playing a musical
instrument. It is not unusual that when the school year ends, so does the practicing
and the interest. |
When
school resumes in the fall there is often the frustration
of having to start over or at least to take several
steps backward. The
Summer Session gives the young musician an outlet to
play with other students and keep up and/or improve
his or her playing
skills over the summer.
